Luke + Cal

Jenni and the fam watched Cal for a bit this last weekend so we could dust off our tennis rackets and go hit the ball around. My sister is holding her pictures from the day hostage ;) and hasn't emailed them to me so here's a link to her blog.

it's time to name this little bambino

We're having a much tougher time coming up with a name for the new little guy than we did with Cal so I ordered a bunch of books from the library (and have more coming) for some naming inspiration. Hopefully it works... We have several names in the hopper but nothing that we're totally sold on. Maybe it's because this is our second boy and we liked 'Callahan' so much, or that a lot of the names I used to like way back when are either too trendy now or just don't work with Hunter. We've got 13 weeks to get this locked cause I'm not the 'lets wait and see what he looks like' type, or else with stuck with Julian (Julie + Ian) or Stuart, name suggestions compliments of Logan.

Best.Toy.Ever.

We did some shopping in Luke & Logan's garage and Cal took home this gem. He's obsessed. The kid loves all things tractors and trucks so having a "big tractor" of his own is a dream come true. The only down fall is we're dealing with some pretty nasty meltdowns when it's time to come inside and his tractor chas to stay out.

This & that

We've been keeping busy doing a little bit of this and a tad bit of that. Mostly just trying to enjoy the nice early spring and our last couple months as a family of three. And I've taken few pics of some of the little bits...

Shooting some hoops with dad. and Ian proving that he's still got it.
more park fun.
At Lo's school play.
and celebrating a job well done with some DQ treats. Someone loves their dilly bars.We had some company and Cal welcomed Lucy by sharing his Fruit Loops and we had more company, Ian's folks came for a night. Dying eggs. all fun & games till someone puts their hands in the dye.

Giddy-Up

I sure do love this little lady. You can put her anywhere and she just chills.

Who woulda thunk...

...that you can catch trophy sized perch right under Interstate 90? Jim set the quantity mark but I landed this hog. The best part was that the 15 people fishing around us couldn't catch anything bigger than 5 inches. Durn tasty too.

We just couldn't stay away.

We took a quick trip over to Seattle on Friday to pick up some of Cal's new furniture, get him some new bedding and do a little bit of power shopping. Going back reconfirmed how much Ian dislikes being in the city, made me realize that I need to take up online shopping cause when I run out of eye shadow my old 5 minute drive to get more is now 2.5 hours, and that Wenatchee really needs a Trader Joe's. It was a little weird being back, knowing that we didn't have a house to retreat to at the end of the day. Of course since we were in the neighborhood we did a drive by our old house and it was SO weird to see someone else living there, although it looked the exact same as when we left.

Cal & his two besties

We're working on making Cal some Wenatchee friends. But for now, he's stuck with these two...

A little practice.

I've been reading a new pregnancy/parenting book and I keep getting reminded of little things I need to know for the baby. I know most of it will naturally come back to me, but there are some little things that are slightly stressing me out. For example: swaddling. I was never a master swaddler but I could do it. I was reading about swaddling the other night and I started thinking, I don't remember how to do that... Ian told me I was even talking about it in my sleep. So I decided to do a little practice run today, and booya, it was like riding a bike (with the help of a little cheat sheet, of course). I'll have to give Ian a little test tonight.

Our little starlet

Logan had a role in her school play - she was a Blizzard Bringer in the Princess & the Pea - and I think it's fair to say that a star is born!

It's no secret, he's still huge.

Cal had his two-year check up yesterday with his new pediatrician, and the kid is still huge... borderline gigantism. But everything is proportionate (height vs. weight) so he checked out just fine and is perfectly on track with all dev milestones for a healthy two-year old.

2-year stats:

  • weights: 35 lbs, 7 oz. -- 97%
  • height: 37 & 3/8 inches -- 97%

heading out to the dr., doesn't he look excited? and even more excited to be at the dr. His weight leads me to the question for all your momma's of two: to double stroller or not to double stroller? I was thinking about getting the Phil & Ted's buggy, but I'm worried that cause Cal's so big, he'll max out the weight, making it pointless to have a double. I don't want a double wide stroller (kids sitting side-by-side), but I want something that we can use for walking/running. Anyone have any suggestions? The kids will be about 2.5 years apart so I'm wondering if I can just bank on putting the baby in a carrier when Cal's in the stroller and expect Cal to walk when baby's in the stroller.

Plasma car

Cal got a Plasma Car as a b-day gift from Gram and Pop and this thing couldn't be more of a hit with everyone. If you don't know what the Plasma is, it's actually pretty cool. You don't have to pedal or anythign to get it moving, everythign is controled with the steering wheel which gets you moving forwards, backwards, etc. Cal knows how to use it the right way, but this weekend the car was a hit flying from from the top of the driveway into the garage. Ian and Luke even dared to start up the street and into the garge.

and they're off!
back up
then Cal decided to run away even Gracie got a turn when they stopped by on their way back to MT
the kid has no fear...

boys will be boys...

I guess this is how boys play house - they climb through the oven.

Cal jacked Luke's toy skateboard when he was over playing the other day and it didn't leave his hands for a good 24 hours, including when he fell asleep. After he conked out I took it out of the bed and I caught him up at 1 a.m. scavanging through his room in the dark looking for it.

my little salad spinning helper. he LOVES this thing.

The girl's just tyring to get some sun.

As some would say, "the face only a mother could love."

A little pregnancy update.

I realized I haven't posted much/said much about this pregnancy on the blog, probably because the second time around is a total different story. With Cal, I lived and breathed being pregnant everyday for 9+ months. When you have a very busy two year old, pregnancy takes a back seat. As weird as it sounds, during the first several months there were times where I'd totally forget I was pregnant... Now I have the lovely reminder of a protruding belly, back pains, etc. I still don't think the realization that we're going to be a family of four in less than 4 months has totally registered with us. Don't get me wrong, we're overjoyed with adding another little bundle of joy to the Hunter clan, we've just been moving so fast the last couple of months that it really hasn't sunk in. Here's a couple of my thoughts/updates on Baby H.

  • Being pregnant with #2 is is a 180 difference from being pregnant with Cal. Basically, being pregnant and taking care of a toddler kicks your ass. Never thought it was possible to feel so wiped. Guess this is good prep for having two kids. Up until about week 16 I felt like the life had been sucked out of me.

  • I am huge this time around. I started showing really early and right now compared to some pics of my belly with Cal, I look like I did around 7 months last time. Several ultrasounds later, I am still not convinced I'm not growing triplets in there ;) Or I'm going to have an even more mondo kid than Cal.

  • I'm around 23 weeks. My new dr. is going on the due date of 6/26, but I'm mentally sticking with my 7/1 due date (based on my first u/s). Don't want to get my hopes up early and I like the sound of July 1.

  • It's amazing on round 2 how early you feel baby kicks and this little guy is REALLY active, way more than I remember Cal moving. He goes, and goes and goes all day.

  • A glass of wine has never sounded so good.

  • Cal thinks he has a baby in his belly button.
  • Because of the move, we left all of the baby goods (clothes, swings, baby chairs, you name it) down from the attic. It's feels like just yesterday were were using all these contraptions with Cal. Crazy to think we're going to be back in baby mode again... soon.
