Jack of all trades

I have to do a little bragging about my man… As most know, we’re remodeling our garage (making it part of the house), re-doing the roof, etc. Instead of hiring a contractor we decided to do it ourselves… Ian drew up the house plans, did all the demo work, re-wired the electrical, relocated the gas line, etc. Ya, impressive – I know. This weekend we’re putting up the new roof tresses, putting on the roof and doing all the exterior work. Once that’s done we’ll work on the inside. Good thing I snatched him up when I did, cause he’s quite the catch!

She's doomed when he gets more mobile....

Cal absolutely loves Suzie and he's constantly trying to catch her. She's pretty into him too, until she gets in trouble for trying to give him too many kisses and she realizes that he can't throw her toys. Once she loses interest in Cal, she'll do walk by's and Cal stretches to the max trying to grab her (lots of grunting involved). She's in for it when he starts crawling cause I have a feeling he'll be chasing her all over the house.

I'm gonna get you

I got you!

Couple Cal updates

  • Bananas are his new fave
  • He has what we call “crazy arm.” He’s fascinated by movement and touching things and his new thing is to lift his arm up and down really fast
  • He gets a little wacky before bedtime. Like a second wind while we’re getting him ready for bed but the second his head hits the crib he turns totally chill
  • He uses his voice to get food and associates his high chair with eating. We put him in his chair while we get his food together and he yells at us until we feed him.
  • He’s SO close to sitting up on his own. He can sit for a couple seconds, supporting himself with his hands and then tips over.
  • Still no teeth…

In other kid news, Suzie had an unexpected trip to the vet this week but rest assured, she’s fine. We thought she might have stepped on a nail but somehow she torn off part of the top layer of her foot pad. A little TLC and she’ll be fine.

Working Weekend

Ian spent all weekend working on the garage. Him and his buddy Nic tore off the old garage roof Saturday and I have no idea what he's working on out there today but he's spent all day out there again.

Cal and I chilled this weekend. We made sure the guys had food while working, did lots of dancing and singing to Cal's new Harry Connick Jr. kids CD, ran some errands and played. We also made and froze a bunch of homemade baby food today. Totally the way to go rather than spending a buck a pop on a small jar of baby food. Cal taste-tested little samples of some of the goodies I was cooking/pureeing up.

Got his work clothes on and is ready to help out in the garageView from the garage Old (dormant) bee hive in the roof

If I had a penny...

...for everytime Cal made me smile during the day I would be able to buy lots of nice shoes ;) He's so great, so funny and makes me SO happy!

We went to the park today to play with Charlie, Carter and Jordan and Cal had a blast. He loved watching the big kids (Charlie & Carter) play and had fun swinging with Jordan.

In other news, the house remodel is officially underway (pic below)...

Swinging with Jordan

He's supposed to be napping (on his back)

Naughty Suzie... Earlier in the day I noticed lots of dog hair on the top of the chair and had no idea how it got there since Suz isn't allowed on the furniture. Then this afternoon I came out of the nursery and this is how I found Suzie. I think she's been sneaking out of the bedroom at night and sleeping here.

Good Stuff

Just when Cal thought there was nothing better than milk, along came rice cereal. Then when he thought rice cereal was the greatest thing ever, along came squash. He had squash for the first time tonight and LOVED it! The kid's a bottomless pit.

I know others may not find his eating posts & pics the most exciting but I just think he's such a doll when he's got food all over his face, and I still can't belive what a big boy he is to be eating from a spoon. So get used to these pics cause there will probaly be a lot of them ;)

Funny guy

Cal does something new and cute pretty much every day. His new tricks this week are saying "da da da da." This is his new favorite word/sound and he'll say it over and over and over all day long. He's also discovering the power of his voice. He's started screaming at the top of his lungs (not crying, just talking) when I get out of sight and the second he sees me he gets a huge smile and starts snickering. It's pretty funny. He's also got a new funny face - pic below.

I'm finally able to upload video! Blogger must have made some updates. This video isn't the greatest and we'll take more to post but it's still fun. I'll try and get one of giggling this week - it's so flipping cute.

Sea Legs

Gram & Pop Smith were in town this weekend and we went on an Argosy Locks cruise. Getting downtown was an adventure. We're in the car on the waterfront and all of a sudden traffic stops and we see a bunch of bikers heading our way. As they get closer we notice that they're all NAKED. There were 50+ bike riders, cruising the streets totally naked -- only in Seattle....

The weather was gorgeous. Cal enjoyed his first boat ride. He chilled in his bjorn the whole time and passed out for the second part of the cruise.

On Sunday the guys torn up the driveaway while mom, Cal and I went shopping for a new dining room table.

Happy Birthday Suzie

Our other baby is celebrating her 3rd birthday today! She celebrated with a cheeseburger (it's a tradition that the dogs get a cheeseburger on their birthday), opening gifts and swimming.

Below are some of my favorite pics of Suz over the last three-years and some b-day pics from today.

5 Months!

Cal turned 5 months yesterday! To celebrate he went to the dr. to get some shots, went shopping at Target and Costco with mom, took some naps, listened to his favorite song in the car - Fidelity by Regina Spektor (I got to get this kid some kid's music), took the dogs for a walk, ate more rice cereal and passed out at 7 p.m.

Yummy

Lights out

Yummy!

Cal tried his first solids tonight, tasty delicous rice cereal & milk - yummy! He was a natural at eating with a spoon.

Got my spoon and am ready to eat!

Cal’s new hobbies…

1) Blowing bubbles with his mouth – he thinks this is fascinating

2) Waking up at 3 a.m. and wanting to get up for the day, fun times… Hopefully this doesn’t last long.

3) More crib gymnastics now during the night & snuggling with his crib bumper

4) Getting a death grip on mommies hair and pulling

Ian asked me what I do to get Cal to smile like this when I take his pic. My answer, nothing. All I have to say is 'give me a smile' then I smile at him and he lights up. I could take a hundred pics of him a day cause he's so entertaining and animated.

Moose on the Loose

Apparently there is a moose on the run in E. Wenatchee and my sis saw it hanging out last Friday. Jenni and the kids were cruising down the street by the mall and low-and-behold, there was a giant moose crossing the street. Here’s a pic of it from an article in the Wenatchee World.

This reminds me of the Cougar that I saw in Pullman (yes, a real life Cougar, aka mountain lion). I was at KFC/Taco Bell and there was a Cougar pacing the retaining wall in the parking lot. When we called 911, the dispatcher was totally chill and said, “Oh ya, there have been sightings in that area.” And that was it..

Lots of firsts

Cal had lots of firsts this weekend. He went on his first camping trip (sort of), celebrated his first 4th of July and caught his first real cold.

This weekend was the annual Weber family campout (Ian’s mom’s side of the family) so 30+ Webers congregated for the weekend at 8-mile campground outside of Leavenworth. We sort of camped – we spent the days at the campground but went back to Wenatchee at night to sleep at my parents. It was a blast and Cal loved it – I think he liked the combination of the fresh air and all the attention.

Unfortunately on Friday night Cal woke up during the night with a cold. The nights have been rough cause he's so congested and has trouble laying flat and sleeping. We got a taste of what it was like to have a newborn all over again on Fri. and Sat. night (hopefully not tonight) - I sure don’t miss those sleepless nights. Besides having cold symptoms (congestion, sneezing, etc.) you would never know that he was sick cause it hasn't dampered his spirits.

Seasoned Mariners Fan

Cal is becoming a regular at Safeco – he went to his third Mariners game tonight. My goal by the end of the season is to get Cal on the Jumbo-tron screen. Although it went way past his bedtime, he had fun. He gets mesmerized by the crowd and the cheering. We had balls flying all around us this game so I was a little nervous about one coming our way but we made it through the game without getting hit ;)

Our Little Suzie

I was clearing out some old email and found some great pics of little Suzie that the breeder sent us when we were looking at pug puppies. They are so precious! Before we got her, her name was Lucky Lady because she was the runt of the litter and almost died when she was a couple weeks old because she was so little.

Suzie and her siblings at 2.5 weeks old

Our little girl

Suzie & her brothers and sisters

Suzie's dad Joey

This is one of our pics & I had to share cause it's one of my faves. This was on Suzie's 1st b-day

For those that don't know the story about how Suzie's joined our family, Ian and I were casually looking at getting a pug (the dog of my dreams) to keep Clyde company. We trekked down to Covington to look at Suzie and I fell in love with her. After we looked at her I went out to the car and Ian went back in to talk to the breeder about buying her. He came out acting pissed and said that the breeder wasn’t willing to negotiate on the price. I was SO bummed. I told Ian the price didn’t matter and I wanted to get her regardless. Then to make matter worse, the breeder sent me an email the next day saying that Suzie/Lucky Lady had sold right after we looked at her. I spent the week dwelling on the dog that got away.

Well, a week later I came home to the most wonderful surprise. Ian was standing in my apartment with Suzie in his arms (he bought her the night we went and looked at her). I was in shock and I was so tickled with the surprise that I failed to notice the beautiful diamond engagement ring around her neck!!!

And three wonderful years later, we’re all one big happy family and Suzie is celebrating her 3rd birthday on July 12th!
